  • 30% refundable tax offset for television and online productions.

  • Minimum AUD $500,000–$1M QAPE, depending on format.

  • Eligibility varies based on treaties for official co-productions.

  • 🛑 Consideration: May require adjustments to your product to align with Australian content requirements, which could impact creative control and extend the approval timeline for your production

2. Location Offset:

For international productions filming in Australia:

  • 30% refundable tax offset on QAPE.

  • Can be stacked with state and territory incentives.

  • Applies to feature films, telemovies, TV series (including documentary, reality, animation), and mini-series.

  • 🛑 Consideration: High QAPE Threshold – The Location Offset requires a minimum qualifying Australian production expenditure (QAPE) of AUD 20 million, which may limit accessibility for smaller international productions.

3. PDV and Offset:

For productions completing post-production, digital, and VFX work in Australia:

  • 30% refundable tax offset on QAPE.

  • No requirement to film in Australia to qualify.

  • Minimum AUD $500,000 QAPE on Australian PDV services.

  • Additional state PDV incentives up to 15%.

  • 🛑 Consideration: Limited to PDV Work – This offset only applies to post-production, digital, and visual effects work, meaning productions that also want to access incentives for principal photography must seek additional funding sources or stack with other offsets.

1. Video Game Development Rebate:

For Australian Game productions and official Game co-productions:

  • Minimum Qualifying Local Spend: AUD $250,000

  • Covers: Salaries, contractor fees, services, facilities, and other eligible development costs incurred within South Australia

  • Incentive: 10% rebate on eligible South Australian expenditure

  • 🛑 Consideration: No cap on the total rebate, provided the project meets the threshold

2. Australian Digital Games Tax Offset:

For international Game productions filming in Australia:

  • Minimum Qualifying Local Spend: AUD $500,000

  • Covers: Eligible Australian development expenditure (nationwide)

  • Incentive: 30% refundable tax offset on eligible Australian development expenditure

  • 🛑 Consideration: No upper limit on the offset amount. Projects must meet the $500,000 MADE (Minimum Australian Development Expenditure) threshold and obtain a formal certificate from the Office for the Arts.

3. Offshore VFX Production Discount:

For Game productions work in Australia:

  • Minimum Qualifying Local Spend: AUD $500,000

  • Covers: Any cinematics or VFX services produced with Offshore VFX in South Australia

  • Incentive: 30% in-house discount on Offshore VFX production fees for qualifying projects produced entirely in South Australia

  • 🛑 Consideration: This can be combined with the SAFC and DGTO incentives where applicable, further improving production value and budget efficiency
